Righteous Free Enterprise- Righteouseness

Righteousness

To discuss Righteous Free Enterprise as God’s plan for business and organizations, we had better, at some point, try to get a grasp of Righteousness. This posting will not be exhaustive because the subject is so vast, it will take much space here and elsewhere to gain a full grasp of it.

To begin, righteousness can be seen as both behavior and character. God IS Righteous, God ACTS righteously.

If you are a Christian the above applies to you as well. If you are not, you can act righteously, but not BE righteous. In the movie Forrest Gump the character states, “Stupid is as stupid does.” This is not the case with Righteousness. Although we all are capable of righteous acts, only Christians are capable of BEING righteous, and even they cannot claim any of their own effort in attaining that status. And Christianity has almost “cornered the market” of theology ( understanding God) in this idea of RIGHTEOUSNESS.

But I digress.

Let’s begin by beginning to define Righteousness- (If you have thoughts on this subject please click on the comment link and join the discussion.)

Righteousness is perfectly RIGHT, without error, without flaw, perfectly JUST, complete, full, no mistakes, no errors, and the only absolute of all that we consider Just and Fair.

On the small scale it means doing the right thing, or act. On an even smaller scale it means doing a “good thing”.

In our businesses and organizations, we should begin there. We should as leaders, aim at doing the “right” thing in all circumstances, and in doing Good, when we see the opportunity. In the post about Power I wrote about doing GOOD as exercising stored up power. This is the essence of a Good Act. Now, doing the RIGHT thing can be more than that, and within that context, we will seek to learn more.
