The "profit motive" is most often cited as the reason for the success of the Capitalist system. In fact, this is true. Profit, wealth, is the goal of capitalism. It is also the goal of Righteous Free Enterprise. But the word is measured and defined differently in Righteous Free Enterprise. In Capitalism, the goal is profit, which is then invested to make more profit and then becomes wealth (stored economic power). The goal in this purely secular approach is more. More is the goal.
Profit in Righteous Enterprise isn't merely about the money. Of course money is a measure of an effective business. But to be Righteous, the pursuit of money cannot be the goal. Jesus himself said in Luke's Gospel in Chapter 6:24 “But woe to you who are rich,
for you have already received your comfort. and Paul is specific when he says that the LOVE of money is the root of all kinds of evil. (1Tim 6:10).
The Holy Bible : New International Version. 1996, c1984 (Luke 6:24). Grand Rapids: Zondervan.
So if money or wealth is the goal of your business don't be surprised if you aren't happy now and that your reward in heaven is far less than you expect or hope.
Money is power. The purpose of power is empowerment. The profit of the Kingdom comes from advancing the Kingdom, if you use your wealth to advance and edify yourself and one-another, and truly advance the rule of God (the Kingdom) in your life and the world, you will be doing the Lord's work.
You must have money to do this, so making it, and lots of it, is not a bad thing. That money is not the goal, that true profit, which comes from the word GOOD, is, a great thing. (More on profit later.)
Do the Lord's work.
