Righteous Free Enterprise- What is Your Economic Worldview?

Do you view the economy as a limited entity with only a certain amount of resources and wealth to go around? Or do you view the economy as limitless, a sea of endless possibilities?

The answer to this question might also indicate how you view God.

Let's consider for a moment how a limited view of the economy represents a limited God. Our view of the economy dictates what we think is possible within it, what is attainable or produceable, what CAN be done. If we say, "hey there's only so much to go around," we are saying that God's ability to provide is limited, and we are saying that all there is what we KNOW of. Or we are saying that God can do anything, but he's only made a certain amount of _______ and so we need to get while the getting is good. What will this view of the economy do to the way we do business? How will it "tempt" us in our business decision-making? In the way we manage and lead? How will we view competition for these "limited resources"?

I submit to you that it affects you a great deal.

And, if you believe God is all-powerful, endless, infinite, all-knowing, omni-present, (among many more), and truly apply that knowledge to your view of the CREATION; if you see the universe, and it's magnificence, and the wonder of a single atom, you just might think about what is possible, differently.

Here's just one example. In the 1970's it was believed that by the end of the century we would OUT OF oil. Now we have developed a process to render crude oil out oil-shale in Canada and with this ONE deposit, (and there is much much yet to discover), we have enough for the next 300 years. It appears that we will replace oil, WAY before we run out of it!!!

Of course GREED is the result of the "limited" view. The worry that we might not get "our fair share" (whatever that is), can cause people to act in their SOLE SELF-INTEREST, which is GREED. You can see why Paul (Col 3:5) refers to Greed as Idolatry, (worshipping someone or thing other than God). In the case of Greed, we are worshipping our SELVES, our SOLE SELF INTEREST. It is ambition of a destructive kind because it seeks to conquor not achieve. It is not ambition that is bad, it is "SELFISH" ambition that is GREED.

In Paul's letter to the Phillipian Church he writes in Chapter 2 : 3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. 4 Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.

So, give this all some thought and see if you can "widen the view of the economy", and get to know the Author of the universe and see if that affects your view of the world.
