- First, know thyself. Determine why you're in business. Why does your busineess exist? How is the world a better place because your business is active and present in it? How would it be worse if your business stopped functioning? Express this succinctly, with the following format- to:_____________________________________________.
- Next, what drives your decision-making in your business. What are the non-negotiable beliefs, morals, principles, that you hold earnestly and that which you would be hard-pressed or unwilling to ever compromise? These are the values of your organization. Don't kid yourself here, and don't make the mistake 90% of leaders make: identify the the values you want not the values you actually hold. This is key. Identify your real values.
- Once you know these two foundational pillars of your company, you are well on your way. The next step is to find competent people, who already agree with these.
